HiH invited at MIT Media Lab

Participation in ISDH2012 and the Holography Exhibition of the ΜΙΤ Museum

   MIT gallery 201016 24985 d

mit-logo-white The 9th International Symposium on Display Holography (ISDH2012) is organized this year (25-29 June) in Boston Massachussets on the top floor of the new extension of the MIT Media Lab and the Hellenic Institute of Holography could not miss being present in this special gathering.

The first ISDH was originated by Professor Tung H. Jeong in 1982 at Lake Forest College in Illinois, USA and since its conception it has been a unique event unlike any other scientific conference. Rather, it is one that synthesizes history, education, art, science, and economic developments that involve holography. A unique purpose of ISDH, beside the obvious exchange of information on display holography, is also to engender a sense of community among participants.

As on earlier occasions, scientific papers from the most authoritative authors on a wide spectrum of display-holography-related areas will be presented and the draft program agenda is indicative of the nature of participations. Naturally, we focus on the HiH contribution in the works of this Symposium entitled

"A transportable system for the in situ recording of color Denisyuk holograms of Greek cultural heritage artifacts in silver halide panchromatic emulsions and an optimized illuminating device for the finished holograms"

On the opportunity of ISDH2012 being organized at its premises, the MIT Museum is planning to feature a limited number of approx. 20 selected pieces of contemporary holographic works in an exhibition in its permanent holography gallery. This unique show will open at the time of the Symposium and be seen by the world audience that visits the MIT Museum over a significant period of time until Sep 2013. It is a special privilege for the Hellenic Institute of Holography that our unique hologram with theme ...

Digitized HOLOGRAPHICS INT'L

HklgrphcIntl
The Hellenic Institute of Holography has digitized out of its archives all past issues of the historical magazine HOLOGRAPHICS INT'L.

These have been added online under our Library category Periodicals>Holographics Int'l where -for reasons of copyright and Intellectual Property rights- they are available in intentionally low resolution format sufficient exclusively for reading/browsing (no print or download permitted). By making available all 8 past issues of this unique source of historical knowledge and information during the years of its publication (1987-1990), we offer all holographers its content for scientific research purposes

Founded by Dr. Sunny Bains in 1987, this magazine covered holographic science, art, and engineering. The title was eventually sold to SPIE in 1991. Hiring her as an editor, the society published two annual editions of the Holographics International Directory and Resource Guide. If of interest, here are her comments about the magazine on its 20th anniversary as they appeared on Dr. Synny Bains' website.

The cost of acquisition, digitization and online hosting of past issues of Holographics Int'l was covered by the HiH and these are now freely available for browsing on the Web for anybody interested in the historical study of the early years of applications of Holography. However, those interested in adding back copies of this magazine in its original printed form may wish to contact its editor at the following address This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. A Great Finish ! And Where Next?

The 1st WEDH in Minsk of Belarus came to its end

In perfect timing with the first snow settling in Minsk, the 2011 World Exhibition of Display Holography came to an end on Dec 20th. And what better finish for the organizers? On the same day, the 100,000th guest was officially received in the person of the 19th-year old Daria Sidorovich, a 1st-year student in the School of Design and Decoration of the Belarussian State Academy of Arts.

The brief public ceremony of delivering a commemorative plaque was continued with a special tour of a group of 80-odd young students of the same School in the exhibition halls personally guided by Alkis Lembessis, Director of the Hellenic Institute of Holography (with the assistance of an interpreter, of course!). The highlight of this 90-min guided tour was the presentation of the latest holographic creations of HiH, which generated the loud public acclaim of all participants.

Digitized HOLOSPHERE

holosphere.vol1.no1(8pages) thumbThe Hellenic Institute of Holography has digitized out of its archives almost all past issues of the historical magazine HOLOSPHERE.

These are gradually added online under our Library category Periodicals>Holosphere where -for reasons of copyright and Intellectual Property rights- they are available in intentionally low resolution sufficient exclusively for reading/browsing (no print or download available). Starting with the 4 first issues of Vol. 1 (1972), this section will be enriched on a monthly basis with the issues of one full annual Volume until all 110 available issues of this unique source of inspiration for early holographers during the years of its publication (1972-1987) are posted for scientific research purposes.

HoloSphere was originally published by Sphere Inc. (USA) hence its title. As of 1974, Int'l Laser Systems Inc. of Orlando (FL) USA took control of this publication until Nov 1977 when the then-newsletter became the official magazine of the Museum of Holography in New York with Ed Bush as its editor. The magazine ceased its publication in 1987.

The cost of acquisition, digitization and online hosting of past issues of HoloSphere was covered by the HiH and these are now freely available for browsing on the Web for anybody interested in the historical study of the early years of applications of Holography. The HiH archives contain almot all past issues of this magazine, however -for the sake of completeness of this unique offer- members of the holographc community are invited to contribute with digitized versions of any missing issues.
